Russell W. Mills
Biography

Russell Mills is an experienced bankruptcy attorney who represents clients in all aspects of bankruptcy proceedings. His clients include corporations, small businesses, individuals, municipalities, associations and bankruptcy trustees. Russell has been practicing law for over twenty-five years and most of those were with an AV® rating from Martindale-Hubbell, the prestigious peer-review award for excellence in legal representation. As an established thought leader regarding issues involving his practice, he is also frequently quoted in the Dallas Business Journal, Dallas Morning News, CNBC News, professional association journals and other news outlets.


Russell focuses his practice on all aspects of commercial bankruptcy and bankruptcy litigation including the representation of secured and unsecured creditors, creditors' committees, trustees, asset purchasers, and debtors. He spends a significant portion of his time representing a wide range of major corporations and smaller businesses in bankruptcy proceedings involving real and personal property lease issues. He has substantial experience in representing defendants in bankruptcy litigation involving preferential and fraudulent transfers and in litigation against officers and directors. He has significant experience in bankruptcy matters before the appellate courts. Russell regularly serves as a volunteer attorney for national and local political campaigns.

He received his law degree, cum laude, from the University of Mississippi School of Law in 1992. While in law school, Russell was honored to be selected as Chairman of the Moot Court Board. He was also chosen for membership in the Order of Barristers and Phi Delta Phi. In addition, he served as Articles Editor for the Mississippi Law Journal, where he co-authored the article, “Ayers v. Fordice: A Summary of the Parties' Arguments.” Prior to law school, Russell graduated from Millsaps College with a B.B.A. in Accounting and worked for three years as a cost auditor for Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Mississippi.

  • Represents numerous real and personal property lessors in bankruptcy proceedings involving preferences, recovery of equipment, assumption of leases and administrative claims
  • Represented Chapter 7 trustee, liquidating trustees and others in bankruptcy proceedings to recover fraudulent transfers and preferential transfers
  • Represented officers and directors of bankrupt telecommunications provider in several proceedings brought by bankruptcy trustee and creditors to recover for fraud and breach of duty
  • Represented creditors committee and liquidating trustee in Chapter 11 bankruptcy of medical association
  • Represented Chapter 11 debtors and creditors in numerous industries including subprime auto lending, hotel and hospitality, manufacturing, housing construction, professional services, and real property development
