Bell Nunnally & Martin LLP has launched an intellectual property-related blog titled “Practical IP."
Written by Bell Nunnally attorneys Craig J. Cox, Jeffrey S. Lowenstein and Danica L. Mathes, the blog’s guiding principle is to provide practical tips and information to businesses to assist them in navigating the ever-evolving intellectual property landscape in their dealings with employees, competitors and the government. Each author brings a unique perspective to the discussions.
Cox is a partner, whose practice encompasses all areas of intellectual property law. He works with companies of various sizes to develop and manage U.S. and international intellectual property portfolios, including patent drafting and prosecution, trademarks, copyrights and opinion work. He has extensive experience with licensing, technology transfer and intellectual property issues in merger and acquisition matters. Cox is a graduate of the University of Tulsa College of Law (J.D., 1994) and Texas A&M University (B.S., 1991).
Lowenstein is a partner and the chair of the firm’s Litigation Section. His trial practice focuses on representing businesses and individuals in complex commercial matters and business disputes. He frequently represents clients in lawsuits involving intellectual property claims, including patent, copyright and trademark infringement, misappropriation of trade secrets and related claims. Lowenstein is a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles where he earned both his undergraduate and law degrees (J.D., 1998; B.A., 1995).
Mathes is of counsel and focuses on intellectual property, entertainment, advertising and new media law. Selected by attorney peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America since 2007, Mathes is adept at handling traditional and emerging intellectual property, advertising and new media matters for individuals, entrepreneurial and closely held businesses and Fortune 100 companies. She is a graduate of Washington University School of Law (J.D., 2001) and DePauw University (B.A., 1998).
To date, Practical IP has covered issues of national importance including: the fracas regarding the Stop Online Privacy Act (SOPA)/Protect Intellectual Property Act (PIPA); the implications of the America Invents Act (AIA) patent reform “First to File” system; and issues surrounding online tracking and personal privacy in cyberspace. The blog also has analyzed issues directly related to the Lone Star state – home to some of the most active patent courts in the nation.
