Heath Cheek Named to Dallas Business Journal's "40 Under 40" List

Bell Nunnally & Martin LLP attorney Heath Cheek has been selected by the Dallas Business Journal for inclusion on its annual “40 Under 40” list for 2013. This distinction highlights executives and entrepreneurs 39 years of age and younger who, per the nomination criteria, “have a proven track record in both business and community involvement.”

“This selection is a testament to Heath’s commitment to achieving results for his clients and his dedication to the community,” said James Skochdopole, managing partner of Bell Nunnally.

Cheek’s practice focuses on trials and disputes, representing clients from Fortune 500 companies to small businesses and high-net-worth individuals in industries including energy, financial services, private equity and real estate in various litigation matters.

Of note, Cheek recently secured a $3 million judgment from a Texas state court on behalf of an investment advisor who brought a case against a private equity firm after advising on an acquisition of an oil and gas pipeline company. After trial, he navigated a complex bankruptcy action which had ensnared the judgment, launching a thorough investigation of non-bankruptcy assets and negotiating a successful resolution of the matter for his client.

Outside of the courtroom, Cheek is a leader for the State Fair of Texas (SFT). The SFT is the largest annual event in Texas and raises money for inner-city Dallas and rural Texas students attending in-state colleges and universities through its Scholarship Program. Cheek chairs one of the fair’s largest committees, the SFT Raffle Committee. This committee numbers more than 140 active members and runs SFT’s largest ancillary fundraising event – the SFT Raffle. Since its founding in 2011, the SFT Raffle has raised more than $100,000 for scholarships.

In 2008, Cheek founded the Texas Tech Quarterly Business Briefing, a speaker series/fundraiser featuring area business leaders. As part of this quarterly event, which Cheek chaired for five years, funds are raised to support low-income students attending the university, which is his alma mater.

Cheek is also engaged civically in the Dallas community. From 2009-2011, he chaired one of the North Texas Super Bowl XLV (SBXLV) Host Committee’s largest working groups, the NFL On Location Action Team. He was the youngest chair of any of SBXLV’s committees. Cheek also served on the Steering Committee for the Dallas Museum of Art (DMA) Junior Associates program (2011-2012) and – alongside his wife, Andrea – currently serves as the underwriting chair for the museum’s Affair of the Art gala.

Actively involved in politics, Cheek is the deputy finance chairman for the Republican Party of Texas and chair of the Republican Lawyers of Dallas.

In recognition of his community achievements, in 2011 Cheek was selected as one of the “Five Outstanding Young Dallasites” by the Dallas Junior Chamber of Commerce. He is a graduate of Baylor University (J.D., 2006) and Texas Tech University (B.A., 2003).

Cheek, along with the entire set of the Dallas Business Journal’s 2013 “40 Under 40” selectees, will be featured in the August 30 print edition of the publication and honored on August 28 at a cocktail reception at the Brookhaven Country Club in Dallas.
