“The State Fair of Texas is a signature event for the state and for the City of Dallas. We are proud of Heath’s involvement. It is yet another example of our commitment to the community,” said James Skochdopole, managing partner of Bell Nunnally.
Funds raised by Cheek’s group for the Fair support scholarships for inner-city Dallas and rural Texas students attending in-state colleges and universities. Monies are raised through many of the Fair’s activities, including the Youth Livestock Auction, the Big Tex Golf Classic, the Champion’s Club Dinner, the Big Tex Sporting Clay Shoot and the Fair Raffle.
In addition to serving as vice-chair of the Fair’s Development Team, Cheek is also chairing the Fair Raffle – the young professionals group for the Fair, composed of 50 individuals drawn from the Dallas/Fort-Worth area. The group organizes a public, $1/ticket raffle of a dozen large prizes including shopping sprees, big-ticket items, restaurant certificates and travel packages, with all proceeds going to the Fair’s scholarship fund.
Cheek is a member of Bell Nunnally’s Litigation; Labor, Employment and Benefits; Creditors' Rights; and Intellectual Property practice areas. His practice focuses on trials and disputes, representing clients from Fortune 500 companies to small businesses and high-net-worth individuals in industries including energy, financial services and real estate.
In addition to his involvement with the Fair, Cheek also chairs the Dallas Museum of Art’s Junior Associates and is a board member for the Dallas Christian Legal Society.
Actively involved in politics, Cheek is the deputy finance chairman for the Republican Party of Texas, chair of the Republican Lawyers of Dallas and Dallas co-chair of the Maverick PAC (Political Action Committee).
