Sonja McGill Named to LCLD's 2016 "Fellows Program"

Bell Nunnally & Martin LLP Senior Counsel Sonja J. McGill has joined the 2016 “Fellows Program” class for the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD) – an organization composed of more than 240 corporate chief legal officers and law firm managing partners and dedicated to building a more open and diverse legal profession.

The “Fellows Program” was launched in 2011 by LCLD. The program’s members are mid-career professionals who have been nominated by their company or law firm’s leadership in recognition of strong past performance and leadership. The “Fellow” year focuses on relationship-building, in-person training, peer-group projects and extensive contact with LCLD’s leadership. According to the organization, “Ideal candidates will have a career history that reflects strong substantive performance and demonstrated leadership skills.”

“Sonja’s acceptance into this program is a testament to her professional development and commitment to growing as a leader,” said James Skochdopole, managing partner of Bell Nunnally.

McGill is a member of Bell Nunnally’s Labor, Employment and Benefits and Litigation practice areas. She has extensive experience as a trial attorney in all phases of employment law and commercial litigation and came to the firm after serving in an in-house capacity for several major corporations. McGill provides strategic advice and counsel on a broad range of employment issues, including recruiting, hiring, employee relations, discipline and terminations, internal investigations, leaves of absence, wage and hour compliance, labor relations, Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) compliance, government contractor compliance issues, contingent worker issues and immigration compliance management. She also frequently serves as a mediator and negotiator.

A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin (J.D., 1998; MPA, 1998) and Princeton University (B.A., 1993), McGill is active in her communities beyond her involvement with LCLD. Among other memberships and activities, she is a board member for Big Thought and REAL School Gardens, a Texas Bar Foundation fellow, a member of the Coalition for a New Dallas, the Executive Women Dallas, and the Dallas Regional Chamber of Commerce. McGill is also the immediate past president of the Princeton Alumni Association of Dallas/Fort Worth.
