Jeff Tinker Profiled on The Texas Lawbook

Bell Nunnally Partner Jeffrey A. Tinker is featured on The Texas Lawbook in a profile tied to the announcement that he had joined the firm. Tinker details how, as a Dallas native, Bell Nunnally’s status as a longtime member of the city’s business community made the firm attractive to him. He also noted that Partner Ray Balestri was “instrumental” in his decision to make the move, adding that they have worked on several deals together. Tinker added, “The IP practice [at Bell Nunnally] is growing and thriving, so it was a great opportunity.”

When asked about impactful major patent decisions, Tinker cited the 2014 Alice decision by the U.S. Supreme Court, noting, “We are still filing patents for software-related inventions, we just have to be more focused on the technological improvements. As frustrating as the Alice decision was for patent owners, it did held weed out a lot of suspect patents.” Post Alice, he had matters for a shopping mall, two software companies and a bank where his team won an outright dismissal or a settlement for little to no money by alleging the patents in question covered ineligible subject matter.

The Texas Lawbook article also adds that Tinker regularly assists apartment communities on music licensing concerns, including five of the top 10 largest apartment managers and owners on the National Multifamily Housing Council (NMHC) rankings.
