Bell Nunnally Senior Associate Brent A. Turman is featured on The State Bar of Texas podcast discussing his recent presentation, “What Kanye Can Teach Us About Litigation.” Joined by co-presenter Elliot Mayen of DHD Films, Turman offers takeaways for litigators from musician Kanye West’s career. Some attributes that litigators would be wise to emulate include: a hard work ethic; crafting communications to effectively reach a given audience; finding balance between playing to a jury’s emotions versus focusing solely on substance; and being consistent in your personal presentation. On the other hand, the pair cautions that West’s behavior, at times, can be a little too outrageous, and following his lead in the courtroom can torpedo concerted, substantive progress in a case. Litigators can draw on additional parallels between West and a litigator’s courtroom practice – just as West samples the great musicians of the past, litigators can emulate their own courtroom influencers.
