Arun S. Avva
Biography

Arun Avva focuses his practice in commercial litigation. He assists individual and corporate clients in contractual, trade secret, antitrust, and other disputes and helps them achieve the best possible outcome given their business and legal objectives. He has represented clients in state and federal court and before government agencies.


Arun also has experience representing and counseling state and territorial government in federal litigation and high stakes matters. He appreciates the unique challenges involved in representing government entities and has experience navigating the political and public relations issues that arise in the course of such representation.

  • Member of trial team that prevailed before the Special Master on behalf of the State of Georgia in a multibillion Supreme Court original action regarding the apportionment of water rights between Georgia and Florida.
  • Defended pharmaceutical company in antitrust litigation seeking nearly $1 billion in damages.
  • Defended a defense contractor in a $50 million trade secret misappropriation claim. Successfully briefed motion preventing opposing party from seeking an additional $200 million in damages in civil RICO claims.
  • Successfully convinced Department of Justice not to bring criminal tax charges against high net worth individual for failure to file FBARs.
  • Member of team representing Commonwealth of Puerto Rico in matters stemming from its financial crisis.
  • Lead associate managing discovery and pre-trial responsibilities on behalf of plaintiff restaurant in a false advertising and trade secret misappropriation matter against a copycat restaurant.
  • Successfully represented a prisoner in the Virginia Department of Corrections seeking religious recognition of his belief system under the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act.
