Bell Nunnally Partner Alana Ackels Quoted in the New York Times Regarding Updated CDC Mask Guidance Affecting Workplaces

Bell Nunnally Partner Alana K. Ackels is quoted in The New York Times article “New C.D.C. mask guidance complicates back-to-office plans.” The piece explores the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance released on July 27, which recommends that everyone, regardless of vaccination status, wear a mask indoors or in public areas with “substantial” or “high” prevalence of COVID-19 cases.

Ackels, reflecting on the CDC’s announcement, which reversed previous guidance that vaccinated individuals only needed to mask in very specific settings, commented, “People are enjoying their freedom, so I don’t know if we’re going to go back or not.” She added that when mask rules were relaxed in May her phone “was ringing off the hook because everyone wanted to get rid of the mask” in the workplace. However, on the evening of the agency’s tightened guidance she noted, “I haven’t gotten a single call about it.”
