Bell Nunnally Senior Associate Brent A. Turman is quoted in the Dallas Morning News article “Pandemic brings bankruptcy, big losses to these two D-FW-based movie theater chains.” The piece explores challenges for movie theater owners and operators in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Turman, former president of the Texas Association of Motion Media Professionals and a board member of the Women Texas Film Festival, notes that the industry, which has had starts-and-stops with respect to reopening, needs new content (as well as public health confidence) for a true recovery to occur. He comments, “digital distribution is going to have a huge leg up in the near future.” Turman also notes the crisis facing film exhibitors “won’t end until [studios] feel safe enough to put ‘tent-pole’ films in movie theaters. Everyone was waiting for another blockbuster, but all they’ve had is Tenet.”
